DAYBREAK is the Title Tune from my new recording project (Sept ’21), created with the collaboration and guidance of my longtime musical pals, participating as Musicians, Arrangers and Recordists aka MIXED REMOTIONS.
Mid-pandemic, living alone, I was longing for connection. I especially missed being in the creative zone with my longtime musical comrades. I felt a deep need to gather ourselves however we might and make music — the pandemic notwithstanding. Soon we were off again on a new musical endeavor!
I booked a band of dear pals. I chose tunes which had long lingered in my muse’s ear, and tunes newly discovered. I commissioned three fine arrangers. Early on, I heard vibes so I encouraged them to include vibes in their instrumentation. I’m thankful for the touch and feel of vibist Jerry Kalaf on this recording.
This album is the culmination of our ongoing recording project (Sept ‘20 – June ‘21) It was created through the wonders of remote recording as well as one fully-vaxxed live studio session. As always, we intended to make music with a sense of immediacy and intimacy. I think we hear each other well.
Focusing on this project gave me relief from my isolation and returned me to a sense of well-being — the lift of collaborative music-making — a balm for us all. I’m grateful.
As an affirmation of the Light’s return, DAYBREAK’s title track and video were completed and posted the week before Joe Biden’s Inauguration. ~ Onward towards the Light!
